Mencap Welcomes Rory McIlroy to new Centre
We were delighted to support Mencap on the recent visit of golf legend Rory McIlroy to their new Mencap Centre, a development which was supported with £500k of funding from The Rory Foundation.
Officially opened in March 2016, the purpose-built Mencap Centre, which now serves as a model for Mencap’s early intervention services across the UK and Ireland, was partially funded by the Big Step Forward Appeal, learning disability charity Mencap NI’s most ambitious fundraising campaign to date. At the heart of the Mencap Centre is the Mencap Children’s Centre, a nursery for 2-4-year-olds with a learning disability, autism or developmental delay.During his visit, Rory took part in a tour of the nursery and a meet-and-greet with Mencap families. He kindly let us film the visit and to capture his thoughts on the centre.
While there he also encouraged people to support the charity by taking part in the 2017 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon and by raising money for #StepUp4Mencap. You can find out how at mencapbigstepforward.org, email fundraising.ni@mencap.org.uk or by calling 02890 691 351. We certainly plan on donning the running shoes.
