A worldwide chicken and egg story
This week we have been in the privileged position of helping share yet another ‘world first’ on behalf of our client, agri nutrition specialist, Devenish.
The health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids to the heart, brain and eyesight are well known. International guidelines recommend eating oily fish at least once per week to consume enough Omega-3, however, many people don’t eat fish at all – so in recent years Devenish have been set on finding an alternative.
In partnership with Moy Park and Waitrose, Devenish developed a chicken feed, OmegaPro, using natural, algae-sourced Omega-3. As part of a clinical trial delivered for Devenish by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, this was fed to chickens, whose meat and eggs in turn then became enriched. This week, at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in California, Devenish announced that the regular consumption of the omega-3 enriched chicken and eggs is likely to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, dementia and depression. This is the world’s first naturally enriched Omega-3 chicken with proven health claims – developed right here in Northern Ireland.
The news has been making international headlines since, with news, health, business, food and farming media across the UK, Ireland, Europe, and the USA already carrying the story.
Seeing our client’s work recognised always gives us a huge buzz. We are particularly proud to have made this story take flight from Belfast – and watch it land, right across the globe.
